What series should I watch next?

Also, MBF, besides being a faithful adaptation of the books, ranked as the #1 book of the 21st century (NYT list as voted on by other notable authors).  I have heard that the translator's talent has much to do with the writer's success in English translation.

Have you adjusted to the new cast. I haven't yet.

I think the first two episodes have been very good, but I admit there are times when it feels like a very well done show, but not one that connects with the original cast. That might change when Lenu goes back to the old neighborhood and some characters, like her mother, are played by the same actors.

Lenu's parents are classic! Perhaps that's what is out of synch. This Lenu doesn't fit. I admit to disliking that character throughout the story. I keep wondering if the writer wanted the reader to root for her or wait patiently for her demise.

I often wonder when I dislike a main character in a popular series if others find them unappealing.

I watched Your Honor and had no sympathy for the main characters.

Coincidentally, Ann Goldstein, the translator of Elena Ferrante's novels will be receiving the Maplewood Literary Award at the Woodland tonight. How cool is that?

She grew up in Maplewood!

Just finished season one of Slow Horses on Apple+. I liked it a lot. I love Gary Oldman and he's great in this. Its British and it's a spy show so you have to pay close attention, or you'll get lost. Subtitles a must. Oldman was the guest on Wait Wait last weekend and he discussed whether his farts on the show were CGI.

Just finished season 4 of Slow Horses and thought it was the best one so far.  It's coming back for another season.

Watched the first 3 episodes of the new season of SHRINKING on Apple TV+. I loved the first season but I'm not having the same reaction to the second season. It's more sitcom than anything else and the Harrison Ford character is a real downer. He's not acting, he's sleepwalking. He looks as if he really doesn't want to be doing TV. No energy, no personality exhibited. I love Wendie Malick, though, and have since she was on DREAM ON in the early 90s. Anyone else remember that show? She looks great, even at 74, and plays her role here with real spirit and charm.

I remember Dream On. It was made by the creative team that went on to make Friends. David Bowie guested on one episode.

HBO is re-running some of its impressive series. In time for me favorite holiday, 7 seasons of True Blood! I missed some of it when it was first aired. Its better than I remembered.

I'm also enjoying the classic Sex In The City. And for the Sopranos fans, there were several days of Tony and the guys.

Now HBO is running a Aaron Sorkin's The Newsroom. Remember he's the Sorkin who wrote West Wing. They've been running all their old series. They run them a season per day. This one is a favorite of mine.

My Brilliant Friend has concluded and this was not my favorite season.

Now I'm on to more HBO reruns with the series Rome. I never saw the whole series and I'm truly enjoying it. Lush and filled with historical drama.

Silo is great. I really liked Shrinking once I turned my brain off and forgot all about the real world ethics of the story's conceit. Harrison Ford is brilliant - cantankerous and grizzly but a heart of gold. I'm looking forward to season 2.

I was sad to see the end of Ted Lasso, but they nailed the landing. I've been ranting about that show since I binged season one on Christmas Day in 2020, and it may be one of the few shows I've watched multiple times, and every time I do I see something new in it, or find a seed that grows into a major storyline later on, or even just clever juxtapositions of the same joke.

It looks like Ted Lasso may be resurrected. Most, if not all of the characters have agreed to return.

Billy Bob in Landman. He plays a "fixer" for an oil company. Some of it is cheesy but the plot is good.

Funny, I think Ford is not good in Shrinking. He seems not happy to be there. His demeanor never changes. Looove Wendie Malick.)

Watching Season 2 of The Diplomat with Keri Russel and Rufus Sewell. Enjoying it, maybe more than Season 1. Lots of good, complex characters.

I think that's part of his schtick. Every now and then you can see he almost breaks that character. Having said that, I'm not enjoying season 2 as much as I did season 1 of Shrinking, though many people had that reaction with later seasons of Ted Lasso, too, so I'm willing to ride it out to the end to see if there's a point to where all of this is going.

I'd be totally fine if Ted Lasso was done and dusted, but I have to admit the idea of a The Richmond Way show following the establishment of a Richmond women's team does pique my interest.

Anyone watching the new Dune The Prophecy series on HBO?

I'm 2/3 of the way through episode 1. I'm not convinced, but I'll let the pilot pass and hope that it gets better.

Me too.

I just started watching The Franchise. Goofy and amusing take on directing a Sci Fi film.

"Sherwood" on Britbox. Based on actual case.

Saw the first episode of this and really enjoyed it.

The Diplomat is very good. Just finished season 2.

My favorite series of the year

HBO is running all of its old series a day at a time but Rome, which was brilliant, ran, unannounced from late afternoon to 3 AM which was a lot of binge watching. No options to watch on demand. It ran for about 3 days and I left off when they introduced a very colorful Herod.

If I could find a clip of the very graphic assassination of Cesar in the Senate, I'd circulate it among all of the new nominees with the required "Beware the Ides of March." warning.

That’s a shame about the On Demand, it’s very much available on Max. Do you access to that?

I should but I have had a problem streaming on my smart TV or my laptop. Maybe I'm not smart enough to keep up.

I'm inspired. Going to give it another try.

BTW I watched more of The Franchise. I love Himesh Patel. It's fun watching the insanity all delivered with a straight face.

I figured out that this TV doesn't have the Max ap but I can stream on my laptop. So started watching Rome again to catch the parts I missed.

Finished Season 2 of The Diplomat. A couple of great cliffhangers during this short season. I recommend it but you should probably watch Season1 first.
