Summer Reading Recommendations

I haven't read it yet, but "Calypso" by David Sedaris is on my list.  It seems to be more of an emotional heavy lift than his usual, such as delving into the impact of his sister's suicide.  But compared to the real life news, I'd call it light reading.

Ah, Sedaris - good idea!  Looks like I have When Your Engulfed in Flames which I haven't read yet.

I am reading King's latest - The Outsider.  It's ok - around 25% through.

I enjoy reading former Maplewoodian - Brad Park's books - looks like he has a new one:

I highly recommend his earlier ones with Carter Ross as the main character - many local references.


I am absolutely loving Buddha's Brain: the practical neuroscience of  happiness, love and wisdom.

Sedaris' book signings are quite the event.

It goes without saying that Albright's book, "Fascism: A Warning," isn't a light read.  She has lived it and I am compelled to read it.

Working my way through A Game of Thrones this summer ( got it for .20 at my local library book sale) 

Last year was the summer of The Dark Tower series. 


I just finished my favorite read of the summer,Clock Dance by one of my special authors,Anne Tyler. Her characters are are so interesting and while reading it,it really makes you observe people. It’s on the N Y Times list as usual.

 I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but that's actually the first of a whole series of novels.  wink 


Any good mystery novels to recommend?

I'm slowly getting through Sapiens - it's great, but need something a bit lighter.


I found "Sapiens" rather weak on reasoning - repeatedly suggesting hypotheses then immediately continuing as if they were proven.

My favourite recent book was Brad meltzer's "The Escape Artist". he excels himself here.
