The trial was never going to happen before the election - even though it's the most clear cut case - given who the judge was. The good news is this gives Jack Smith a reason in his appeal to show the complete lack of judicial logic Cannon has displayed so in addition to requesting a reversal in her decision he now has good fodder for requesting her removal on this case (citing a one off concurrence by Thomas who is insane, a corrupt judge and opining on an issue that was never put before the Supreme Court).
