So, are there any pickleball fans out there?
I had played once or twice a few years ago while still in NJ. Pre-pandemic. I started playing in earnest here in Ohio just about one year ago, as part of my effort to get back in shape after my pneumonia related 2-month hospital stay. I was soon playing several times a week, until I crashed and burned in Feb 2024. A bad calf muscle pull, followed by a string of minor injuries and illness that led to a 6 month layoff. I might have pushed myself a bit too far.
It's very popular out here. Lots of courts, indoors and out. I love it. Everyone is very nice, and there's a wild mix of ages and experience levels. And I'm a pretty decent player for a fat guy pushing 70. Years of playing racquetball has definitely helped.
But I started playing again a couple of weeks ago, and so far so good. Trying to take it a little easier this time around.Anyone playing out in NJ?
My husband loves Pickleball. Shredded his Achilles playing in December. It's been a long recovery after surgery. He started playing a little a few weeks ago. He's like Rick Astley about Pickleball.
Pickleball is very popular here. The recreation department runs classes and clinics. residents can reserve time on the local courts. Matters Magazine recently ran an article on a local pickleball club that is going strong with 200+ members.

Planning on traveling back East if someone takes you up on your match challenge?
Don't think I've ever heard so many injuries mentioned in a conversation about what I thought was a rather tame sport.
I know from experience that a lot of BOWLING goes on in Ohio. That's more my speed (and I have my own ball with my initials on it. I think that's standard closet fare for anyone who was ever married to a Clevelander.....) But I think that I will have to find a new home for it as I approach the "downsizing" stage of life I'm about to begin.....
Be careful!
