Well, that out the announcers in their place.
what happened? I was listening to Howie Rose on the radio.
Did anyone see the play on the winker stolen base in the eighth? They were talking about it on the radio. I’m curious what it looked like.
Those announcers were horrible. Not as bad as the umps, but close. They kept talking about the Mets needing a HR. Have they not watched them over the last month? They have had some HRs, but it has been primarily string hits and walks together.

In fairness, that was when Wheeler was still pitching.
And dominating.
No mention at all of Severinos low pitch count. And brilliant analysis like " sometime in the next 12 outs the Phillies need to get the tying run to the plate"
As I typed they finally mentioned the pitch count.
Man, I dont think anyone is going to win this game until it's over.
I never thought that Vientos Homer would get out. It looked like a pop io when he hit it.
Sorry guys. I sat down to watch the last couple innings. I never should have.
Diaz is running on fumes, and looks like Butto may be as well. I agreed with bringing Diaz in in the 7th. Their big issue was throwing strikes to Castellanos.
Why’s it so quiet in here. Is everyone afraid of jinxing things?
I was just reading the box score. Six 2-out RBI? Am I reading that right?

yes
And yes
I am reminded of Game 6 of the 1986 NL playoffs. Mike Scott was absolute kryptonite to the Mets and he was scheduled to pitch game 7. Game 6 felt like an elimination game.
Likewise I don’t think the Mets want to take their chances with Zack Wheeler again tomorrow. I hope they get it done tonight. Plus it will be great for the fans at Citifield!
I was there yesterday. What an atmosphere! I don't know if they showed it on the TV, but after the Phils got the hit to score the 2nd run the stadium was getting a bit quiet. Pete turned around and started waving his arms to get everybody to cheer. It worked! The only thing I miss about living in Queens versus Maplewood is the commute home after a Mets game. That said NJ Transit was on time and they let everybody take the 7 train for free.

I hope they can give Alonso what he wants to stay. I know not everyone feels the same way, but I think it would be great if he could play several more years in New York.

I thought they made him a very reasonable offer last year. I would like him to stay, but they shouldn't break the bank for him.
I think the Mets have left 48 men on base tonight. I’m glad they’re up 4-1 right now. But dang there have been men on third at least three times that didn’t score.
What a game. But also what a poor call for Bohm. That hit looked fair to me.

I agree. That really could have changed the game if it was called fair. It’s hard when a single call is so consequential. There are probably dozens of calls every season like that, but very few that are so significant.
Okay so really they left 10 guys on base. That’s a testament to the Phillies pitching as much as anything I think.
So who do you want to see in the next series?
Great win. It's been a fun year.
I got a kick out of a comment from a Phillies fan on an article at The Athletic today.
To his credit he was very complimentary toward the Mets. But he added that the Mets are very "corny" referring to Grimace and OMG.
He doesn't get it. He's right we ARE corny. In a market with the very serious legend of the Yankees, corniness is our point of distinction.
Also, I'm thinking of Jerry Ryan tonight. During the 2015 postseason run Soul29 arranged viewing parties and Jerry was there each night cheering for "DANIEL MURPHY!!"
Jerry would be loving this.
"FRANCISCO LINDOR!!"
Just for fun I looked back at the comments from May. Nobody posted for about a week and a half after the low point against the Dodgers. But by the second week of June we were all pretty bullish on the team's postseason chances. And I had forgotten the team got itself in the last wild card spot by the All-Star break. They really did rebound fast after May.
And ToT gets special props for this very early expression of optimism from May 31.

Are these the regular Phillies announcers? They sure sound that way.
