On a not totally unrelated note, what's up with the people who stand right in front of the monitors that list the tracks in Penn Station? Hello, see all of us standing back here? We can't see through you!

Seriously, I'm 5' 1", they can see over my head, they don't have to come and stand in front of me. Grrr

This morning.

As a former long suffering commuter, drop a briefcase or heavy pocketbook on the feet. If the miscreant objects say that seats are for sitting not feet.

marylago -- is that the same person as Bella's picture?

The faces definitely look similar because they both are in "screen" pose with their eyes focused downwards. To me, the body types look different. Their bags/purses are different.

I'm procrastinating - the students are taking a test and I should start grading the ones from the previous class, but I just can't concentrate! Or I can't concentrate on anything meaningful.

Last evening, a guy (across the aisle and one row up from me) stretched out on his back on the 3-across seat and stuck his feet out into the aisle. I was too chicken to take a photo. Instead, I just gawked.

Oh, megan! That would have won first prize. You gotta be more proactive! LOL!

Would it be acceptable if someone took his shoes off before putting his feet on the seat?

I noticed that they looked similar but it's a different train line and I think EBennett is correct.

Eh, the towel doesn't really do anything for the stinky feet syndrome.....but that was a good try, Tom!

Quite frankly, back when I had a third degree burn on my foot and I needed to keep my foot elevated as much as possible, I tried putting my foot up on the seat and found it so uncomfortable, I put it down on the floor. But again, that's me...

How about keeping the shoes on and putting them on the towel? Or a newspaper?

This is a favorite of mine that I took a couple years ago.

Maybe we should all hold up our cameras in public more often. If people aren't ashamed when there is no camera, maybe they will be when there is one. And a camera that takes pictures of goings on in public are merely of things that are in public in the first place.

I'm with Mr. Wood on this. I am all for technology, and I am all for keeping feet off seats in public transportation, but I think posting pics of strangers, especially local people on our train line who may be recognized, behaving in a socially inappropriate way is icky. We all fall below the line of social etiquette once in a while. Can't wait to catch mums picking his/her nose.

Why is it that posting pictures of people doing something inappropriate "icky", when having to see them do it in person is acceptable?

Again, you shouldn't be afraid of cameras if you're not doing anything inappropriate or downright wrong. This is, after all, how they caught the Boston bombers (alleged or otherwise).

it's just creepy. like stalking.

The conductors do a decent job keeping feet off of seats. When I see someone littering or see them with their fly down, I say something, I don't photograph it, and then shame them on a public forum into keeping better track of their garbage or their zipper.

I could go on, but, it is really just my opinion. I guess I am sad that snapping pics of strangers is so acceptable. I feel I am my own person, and, unless I am a public figure or famous person, I like that I have some measure of privacy, anonymity, and ownership of my image.
